New Orleans Saints Lose Chris Ivory, Pierre Thomas For NFL Playoffs

The New Orleans Saints found out earlier this week that one of the key cogs that kept their explosive offense balanced for much of the season, Christopher Ivory, would be lost for the season with a foot injury.

The news only got worse.

It is now being reported that the Saints will lose a second big-name running back, as former starter Pierre Thomas has also been lost for the remainder of the season with an injured left ankle.

The two major injuries stifle a once-solid running game for the Saints, leaving New Orleans extremely thin at running back.

Unless the team makes a huge signing out of nowhere in free agency, it looks like New Orleans will be attempting to repeat as Super Bowl champions with Reggie Bush and Julius Jones carrying the load as the team's two backs remaining.

The 2010 NFL Playoffs will not be kind to the Saints if (once) they get past the Seattle Seahawks in the first round, as the Atlanta Falcons or Chicago Bears will take them on, while a run-in with the Green Bay Packers or Philadelphia Eagles would also pose as a huge test for an untested ground game.
